Hate Being on Camera? There’s a Better Way to Show Up Online

Let’s face it, the idea of sitting down in front of a camera, reading from a script, and trying to come across as natural and knowledgeable is the stuff of nightmares for most people.

If just the thought of recording a straight-to-camera video makes you suddenly remember 34 urgent things you need to do instead, you’re not alone. But here’s the good news:

You don’t need to be a presenter to create great content.

In fact, you’ll probably do much better not trying to be one.

Enter: The Interview Format

Over the past few years, I’ve filmed and edited over 100 podcast-style interviews. And here’s what I’ve found again and again:

People who freeze up in front of a lens are totally relaxed in a conversation.

When you take away the pressure of “performing” and just have a chat with someone who knows how to guide the conversation (hi), the difference is huge. The energy changes. The answers flow. And most importantly — you sound like you.

How It Works (The Low-Stress Version)

Here’s my process, in case you’re wondering what this all looks like:

  • We sit down for a relaxed chat. You talk about what you do, your story, your expertise — nothing stiff or scripted.
  • I’ve got the mic and camera sorted. You just bring yourself and your brain.
  • As we talk, I ask questions that pull out the clarity and confidence you already have — just like chatting with a friend over coffee.
  • Afterwards, I take that 30–45 minute recording and turn it into bite-sized, high-impact clips for social media. Think reels, shorts, and those quote-led micro-videos you keep seeing and liking on your feed.

Why This Works So Well

You’re being yourself
No teleprompters, no memorising lines. Just sharing what you know in your own words, at your own pace. It is the perfect way to produce short form video content

Conversations are natural
We all know how to have a conversation. It’s part of being human. But standing alone in front of a camera, trying to remember your lines? That’s acting. And you’re not an actor (unless you are — in which case, carry on).

It builds trust
When people hear you talking genuinely — not reading or pitching — they connect with you. It’s authentic, and in today’s online world, that’s gold.

It’s content-rich
One 45-minute conversation can turn into weeks’ worth of content. And because it’s unscripted, it feels fresh, not forced.

Zero pressure
Don’t like a bit you said? No problem — it doesn’t go in. The edit is where the magic happens, and I’ve got that covered.

Don’t Let Camera Shyness Hold You Back

If you’ve been putting off making content because you don’t like how you look or sound on camera, this might just be your way in.

You don’t need a slick script or flashy production. You just need a good chat, a decent mic, and someone who knows how to ask the right questions.

That’s where I come in.
